Whaleman’s primary mission is to educate key decision-makers while raising public awareness on the issues that affect cetaceans (dolphins, whales & porpoises) and their critical habitats through our films, research, campaigns, and media outreach.
Right now, despite the worldwide moratorium on commercial whaling, fishermen from Japan and Norway, and the Faroe Islands are going to kill over 20,000 dolphins, whales, and porpoises this year selling their meat for profit. The Japanese and Norwegian Governments are all subsidizing the killing of whales! Masayuki Komatsu, Japan’s former Fisheries Minister had this to say: “There are so many whales …they are the cockroaches of the sea… At the IWC, we want to aim for the resumption of commercial whaling.” The only way to stop whaling is through political and economic means, and the Biden Administration is taking no action even though recent polls have shown that over 75% of Americans oppose whaling and want the US Government to take action to stop it.
In the far reaches of the Pacific Northwest, there is a place where hundreds of islands flow out of the forest green sea…a place where one of the world’s most beautiful, powerful, and majestic creatures can be found, Orca, the killer whale. This is also a place where something insidious is happening.
